We got our hand on an 8th Ice Cream Strain and had a blast testing this rare Indica dominant strain.

Smoking from a blunt, you get the nice vanilla and citrus-like flavors mixed with the papers that just give this rare strain a classic kick. Smoking from a bong however had a smoother and lighter taste, but you could definitely still note the sweet and citrus flavors in the after-hit.

Smoking Ice Cream Cake weed was surprisingly smooth, and the effects kicked in at a very healthy pace. We enjoyed a very gradual high with good legs, and the decline was the same way.

Verifying the authenticity of the Ice Cream Cake strain isn’t too hard.

There are a few telltale signs, but one important factor to consider is that the original strain was made by Seed Junky Genetics and grown by a few of the top cultivators in Southern and Northern LA.

As more dispensaries get their hand on a clone of the original, depending on their cultivation quality you may be getting your hands on real Ice Cream Cake weed but at a lower cultivation quality as we cannot expect every dispensary to grow their plant the same as another.

Seed Junky Genetics made the original cross between Wedding Cake X Gelato 33 to create the first Ice Cream Cake strain.

With their unique cultivation skills, they created a crystal-covered bud, packed with silver and orange pistils, and with a foundation of purple hues. The purple hues however can be masked if there are more trichomes (the sugary look), but make no mistake beneath all those crystals is definitely purple.

In the image above you can see different variations of properly grown authentic ICC strain. Some may have fewer trichomes (white crystals) but more orange pistils, or more white coating, masking the purple and orange hues.

The Ice Cream Cake strain genetics thrive in hotter climates. With that being said, as a grower, you know hotter climates do encourage a rise in humidity levels, so you will want to make sure you are prepared to battle it out with fungus, mold, mites, and other nuances such as powdery mildew.

A controlled environment is most ideal, so whether you build a grow room or get a large grow tent you will have a better time controlling pests. The ice cream cake plant is a shorter plant, with very dense buds, so you want to think of accommodating space horizontally not just vertically.

If you are growing indoors with limited height space, we recommend you focus on using a trellis system and implement monster cropping techniques to get maximum yields horizontally rather than vertically.

If you are growing through hydroponic nutrient feeding, you run the risk of losing all the precious potential terpenes, and a pure flush with R/O (reverse osmosis) water in the later flowering stage is highly recommended, otherwise you will be getting some pretty harsh tasting terpenes.
